Makeing newcomers feel welcome

I don't think this is a requirement but it is something nice to do and i am sure new comers would appricate it and feel much more calm and relaxed about posting. So I would like to request the when we get new members that if you can, take the time to send them a message saying hello and make them feel welcome cause i know not everyone is as open as others. You don't have to do this but it seems like it would be kind and helpful.
